William
Shakespeare is the most widely read of all Authors and the popularity of the
works of Shakespeare, in English speaking countries, is second only to the
Bible. He intrigues other authors. According to TS. Eliot, “I do not believe
that any writer has ever exposed this bovarysme, the human will to see things
as they are not, more clearly than Shakespeare”. Shakespeare’s ability to
summarize the range of human emotions in simple yet profoundly eloquent verse
is perhaps the greatest reason for his enduring popularity. If you cannot find
words to express how you feel about love or music or growing older, Shakespeare
can speak for you. No author in the Western world has penned more beloved
passages. Shakespeare's stories transcend time and culture. Modern storytellers
continue to adapt Shakespeare’s tales to suit our modern world, whether it is
the tale of Lear on a farm in Iowa, Romeo and Juliet on the mean streets of New
York City…
Here are his most popular quotes:
- The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves. (Julius Caesar)
- To be, or not to be: that is the question. (Hamlet)
- The course of true love never did run smooth. (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
- If I lose mine honor, I lose myself. (Antony and Cleopatra)
- All the world ‘s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts. (As You Like It)
- Now is the winter of our discontent. (Richard III)
- Brevity is the soul of wit. (Hamlet)
- Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em. (Twelfth Night)
- Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none. (All’s Well That Ends)
- Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow. (Romeo and Juliet)

When I listen about Shakespeare, I always enjoy reading his own books. When I was in the college years till now I used to enjoy alot reading especially when I had nothing to do. I used to read in the school's library and buy a book that most interested me to continue reading at home.
ReplyDeleteIn fact Ahlam, we are neglecting reading. I want to invite you to read Shakespeare's masterpieces from novels, such as Hamlet, Macbeth, The Tempest, Othello..., poems, such as A Fairy Song, Bridal song... he wrote plays that are enormously rewarding to act and direct his characters are endlessly interesting and impossible to reduce to a simple formula, his language, though now difficult, is subtle, richly varied, and eloquent.
